How NYSC Corp member was almost tortured to death in Nasarawa Camp
Report not written by me. It was sent to me to share. Read below...
One of the Batch A Corp members currently in Nasarawa state
Orientation Camp yesterday almost lost his life at the camp due to
extreme torture by security operatives. The Corp Member Bunmi
Adeyera (pictured above) with the State Code: NS/15A/0134 and Call-up
no: NYSC/NIJ/2015/061287 who is said to be sick was today locked-up
in the guard room for hours until he collapsed and became unconscious
in the Guard room.
An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity has full details. Read excerpts below:
“To all my fellow NYSC corp members around Nigeria, today, I witnessed
how one of my colleagues, Adeyera Oubunmi (State code:
NS/15A/0134)(Call-up no.: NYSC/NIJ/2015/061287) almost died due to
maltreatment in Nasarawa state NYSC camp by security officials.
What happened this morning was that Bunmi Adeyera who is also
Platoon 4 leader and was obviously sick went to the Camp clinic to
collect some drugs to combat his ailment and was approaching the
camp market to get food (since food was no longer available in the
camp kitchen) in order to use his drugs when he was stopped by
security operatives (Nigerian Police force and Man’O War) and was
asked to go back into the camp hall for lectures. He tried explaining to
them that he was sick and needed to take his drugs but they did not
listen to him, rather he was told to start ‘frog-jumping’. Bunmi quietly
explained to them that he might not be able to ‘frog-jump’ because of
his health status.
The next thing I saw was that the security operatives (who were
obviously Hausas, because they communicated fluently in Hausa
language) told asked him if he was Hausa or Yoruba. When he told them
he was Yoruba and he hails Lagos state, they seized his NYSC
identification tag and marched him straight to the ‘Guard room’
allegations of ‘being stubborn’ without give him any chance of speaking
in his own defense.
This place called Guard room is a bathroom located at the entrance gate
of the Nasarawa Camp where soldiers urinate at all time and with no
cross-ventilation.
We all watched them take the poor sick Corp member to the Guard
Room, and was detained there going to three hours. The next thing I
saw was people from the camp medical unit running towards the gate
with stretcher in their hands. Behold Bunmi had collapsed and fainted in
the so-called guard room.
Even while the Red Cross team was trying to rescue the situation, the
soldiers sent them back saying that all was pretence and that when he
wakes up, he will return to the guard room.
The doctors battled for his life for about an hour before Bunmi Adeyera
became conscious again and was later stabilized.
Every Corp member on Camp including NYSC officials know Bunmi to be
easy-going, obedient and friend to all which is more reason he emerged
the leader of Platoon 4.
The population of those who went to the clinic to check on him is one
that I have never seen on camp although they wouldn’t allow us take
pictures of this ugly incidence.
But my question is this why is it that we Corp members who have in
good faith and humility come to serve our father land are being
maltreated even to the extent of someone fainting. This should not
continue.”
Bunmi Adeyera is a graduate of Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Lagos. All
attempts to reach the Nasarawa state co-ordinator, Mrs. C.I Uba, proved
abortive.

Tension In UNIZIK As SUG President Queries VC On Alleged Corruption
Awka- TENSION is mounting at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka following a letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Joseph Ahaneku by the president of the Students Union Government, SUG, Mr. Noble Eyisi over some perceived anomalies in the institution.
As the students were circulating the letter in the campus,Tuesday, security operatives tried as much as they could to mop up the document, but it was late as most people in the university community had got copies of it.
In the letter, several allegations were leveled against the VC by the SUG, most of which bordering on corrupt tendencies.
For instance, the SUG alleged that for the first time, Year 1 students were asked to pay the sum of N7500 for what the school management called ‘Biometric Capturing fee’, adding that with about 6000 students admitted this session paying the amount, the sum of N45 million was collected and wondered what the money has been used for .
The students’ union president also demanded to know how the students union dues paid annually were utilized because, according to him, the students who are the sole owners of the money have been demanding to know how much is in the account.
Other demands of the students include reasons behind the hike of the post-UME fee from N1000 to N2000 by the present management of the university, why the management objected to the food price of N150 per plate initiated by the SUG, why SUG officials were not paid allowances as obtainable in other tertiary institutions and why the VC initiates and carries out policies that directly affect the students without consulting them.
The letter said: “Our dear VC, the students are the bedrock of any university. We demand that you take us as your utmost priority. As this is a federal institution and in view of the trending change and zero corruption in Nigeria through our president –elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, we demand a transparent system and a complete students- oriented government.”

[photos] List Of Best Dressed African Celebrities 2015
After carefully analyzing their different modes of dressing and and
sense of fashion of our beloved black entertainers, I decided to make a
list of those I think dress flamboyantly and almost perfect in any or
every occasion.
Analyse with your eyes and see if you agree with me.
D- Banj AKA Kokomaster
The koko-master was recently named best dressed male at an award show and we are in full support of the judges. With a kinda unique and enduring style, the koko never disappoints. His style seems to be a blend of ( kind of) a modern Micheal Jackson style with a lot of his personal style as well. With his great personality and style.

Lupita N’yongo
The Kenyan award winning actress has always been glamorous on red carpet and magazine covers. Her high fashion sense has made top magazines include her in most fashionable lists.

P-Square Duo
Paul and Peter Okoye amazing dancing skills rival their equally amazing styles. Their wardrobes are the dream of every man who knows the essence of looking good.

Nadia Buari.
The new mother of twin girls made our list not because of her famous stunning looks but because of her enviable fashionable style.
The fair skinned actress has wowed us on almost every occasions.

Rita Dominic
One of our favourite stylish actress, the ageless beauty rocks our world always with her fantastic styles. She demonstrate the confidence to rock any outfit, making her the toast of the fashion world.

Uti Nwachukwu
BBA winner turned model cum actor cum presenter has the looks and style.
We have NEVER EVER seen Uti in a bad outfit. This guy is a style genius. He has one of the most diverse, classy and ever changing styles, from traditional African outfits to double breasted colored suits.

Omotola Jalade Ekehinde
This gorgeous mother of four is one of those vieing for the No. 1 spot on this list. Her ever stunning looks has successfully been presented in beautiful outfits.

Yvonne Nelson
The dark-skinned Ghanaian diva also made our list. She is one of our most fashionable darlings on and off red carpet shows.

Jim Idle
A list without this handsome fashionista is incomplete. Jim is definitely one of our most fashionable male celebs making him one of the most eligible bachelors around.

Genevieve Nnaji
The Julia Robert of Africa is arguably No. 1 on the list. The stunning mother of one rocked the just concluded red carpet with a eye – popping custard -yellow coloured dress.

Juliet Ibrahim
The stunning mother of one figure and style are so enviable. Her style statement screams simple but GLAMOROUS.

Tonto Dike
Nollywood fair -skinned actress has always brought on her A-game when it comes to dressing her pretty self up. The curvy star has always managed to wow her fans and critics alike.

The fact that gorgeous tonto dike is last doesn't mean she's the winner.
The Fact that handsome Dbanj is first doesn't mean he's the winner.

10 Helpful Tips For Graduates With 2.2. And Lower Grades
A lot of emphasis has been placed on the need for students to graduate with stellar grades. I will continue to advise same. It’s common knowledge that most big firms in Nigeria don’t recruit graduates with less than a 2.1. Many graduates with 2.2 or lower are not even given the chance to prove themselves, eventhough some of them may be better than some graduates with higher grades. This is exacerbated by the high unemployment rate in Nigeria. It won’t be a shocking news to know that there are still a few organizations that aren’t even accepting corps members (before the recent policy on posting), graduate interns and contract staff with grades lower than 2.1.
But that truth remains that students will continue to graduate with such grades, whether we want it or not. Many finish with such grades for reasons that are entirely avoidable while others are caused by factors seemingly beyond their control. But whatever the reason, they still deserve to live a fulfilled and responsible life. A few have sought my advice as they appear confused after graduating with 2.2. or third class. I have therefore decided to provide some general tips that can help graduates with 2.2 and lower. This is based on personal observation and experiences of others, some of whom I know to have made remarkable successes despite their low grades. Adapt them to your peculiar situation.
1. Work on your mindset – This is the first step towards overcoming the challenge of having a low grade. Accept the reality that it is likely going to be tougher for you out there compared to other graduates and start preparing for it. Know that you will most likely have to prove yourself and work harder than others. Don’t sit and whine peevishly about how life has been unfair to you. Life itself is a challenge. Realize the challenges on time and brace up for it. Don’t waste precious time on regrets and don’t fall into the trap of inferiority complex.
2. Network – Let’s face the facts and not deceive ourselves. Graduating with a 2.2 means that chances of joining the one of the big companies as an entry level staff in Nigeria in an open recruitment process is lower than others with better grades. Very few companies give 2.2 graduates the even the slightest opportunity to prove themselves. It is therefore very essential for you to learn to network. Improve your interpersonal skills and hone your networking skills. From observation, more than 70% of the graduates I know that graduated with 2.2 or less in the last 5 years got their jobs through networking. Strengthen your networking skills. Go to conferences, professional associations, etc. Get reliable contacts and industry informants. Polish your linkedin profile. Don’t ignore religious and ethnic gatherings too. Friends can also be very helpful.
3. Improve your communication skill and confidence – This cannot be overemphasized. Communication skills (speaking and writing) can greatly enhance your chances of getting a job. The difference between 2 equally smart graduates may boil down to the ability of one being to express himself more than the other. Communication and confidence go together. Confidence in speaking can even make falsehood appear true. Have you ever wondered why con artists are able to swindle people? They talk and write displaying great poise and confidence. This is not to say that you need to lie arrogantly to get a job. I’m simply reiterating the need for you to sell yourself suitably because no one else will. You stand a better chance if you can.
4. Go for a masters or professional certification as soon as possible- While a masters or certification will not entirely take away the drawback caused by having a 2.2, it might ameliorate the effect. Believe me, there is a big difference between a BSc (2.2) in Accounting and a BSc (2.2) in Accounting + ICAN certification. Same goes for a BSc (2.2) in electrical engineering and a BSc (2.2) electrical engineering + MSc (distinction) in software engineering. Some companies are willing to consider 2.2 backed with a masters degree. The last NNPC advert for entry level positions considered 2.2 but with Masters degree. Besides, one can pursue an academic career depending on how good your postgraduate results are. It is good to consider a good postgraduate programme
5. Learn new skills – Your skills can enhance your employability. Search for suitable skills that can complement your BSc degree or help you build a career for which you are interested. I have seen graduates learn programming, graphic designs, web design, etc and making a whole lot of money from them. Some learn useful engineering softwares. Some are simply astounding when it comes to database management. Others have great marketing ability. Quite a few are good writers and bloggers. The list goes on and on.
